"Cleanliness is Next to Godliness"It is very important that your balancing equipment be treated with respect. Most balancing machines, Dynamics Research Corp’s in particular, are rated to read vibration to 5 micro-inches (.ooooo5 in.). If you had any other instrument that was capable of measuring to this level you would keep it in a velvet lined case, under lock and key. Most balancing machines, however, are out in the shop and subject to all the elements, so it is very important that you take extra care with keeping it clean. Whenever you are grinding, drilling or the machine is not in use, you should be sure that the roller bearings are covered. You need to make sure that the base ways are wiped down each time before you move the pedestals. At least once a week you should do general housekeeping on the entire machine. Remember if you take good care of your tools they will take good care of you.
